The HLA depends on volunteers like you to make our community a better place!

In the past several weeks, volunteers have worked to repair some leaks in the system. I'm sure most of you have noticed a couple of open holes in the Homestead. The first leak on Pinion was left open until we were able to order a replacement dual check valve to complete the repair. We will be finishing and covering up the hole as soon as weather and time allow. The second and considerably larger hole, is along Homestead. It was a two-day repair of multiple leaks along the joi

Several Homestead residents donated funds for a memorial plaque in honor of Steven Havill to be hung in the community center. The plaque was created by Zak and Krista Starer of 3 Star Studio Arts on a piece of locally sourced juniper wood. They graciously decided to donate the piece of art. The $220 collected for the plaque will be donated to the Baldwin Public Library here in Datil in Steve's name. Thank you to all the generous people who were a part of this effort. Caption

Volunteers at work! After being allerted to a leak on Lookout Circle, a few of our volunteers went to work on the repairs. Thank you to Ken Cox, Keith Ward, Steve Benson, and Jim McDaniel for mobilizing quickly to get the job done. They completed the repair just as the torrential rain and hail began. The good news is all that rain did most of the work back-filling the hole for them!

Lucero Tree is being recommended for pine felling, chipping and log removal. The Ken and Eva Cox used them recently and were satified with his work and attentiveness to their needs. He was good at getting back to them in a timely manner. He is insured and fullly equipped, including a large (10") chipper. He is based in Socorro. Steven F. Havill June 22, 1945 – August 27, 2026 Steven F. Havill, beloved husband, brother, uncle, friend and celebrated author of more than thirty novels, passed away on August 27, 2026 in Los Lunas, New Mexico, at the age of 81. There was a major customer line break on Sunday, August 9th where all water lines and storage tanks were emptied. Whenever this happens, there is a water hammer effect from repressurizing water lines that can be intensified by air pockets. Due to the water issues Sunday, August 9th, the regular monthly board meeting had to be cancelled. This meeting is rescheduled for Sunday, August 16th at 2:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

It is never pleasant to wake up to find out you have no water pressure. First thanks to those that reached out to let us know there was a problem that needed to be addressed. Thanks so much to Kevin and Deanna Amos for taking on the project of repairing damaged/worn road signs and replacing missing ones. We are grateful for the artistic abilities of Corina Jang for hand stenciling the new signs. Thanks Declan and Jim for installing Starlink to our Community Center. Members voted to include electronic meetings to the by laws to maintain a quorum in order to continue the workings of the volunteer Board of Directors.
